The US should destroy North Korean missile on the launch pad says former Clinton defense secretary. That is quite a bold statement coming from the liberal side of the isle, but maybe not such a bad idea.

Preemption, while "unwisely ballyhooed" by the White House and wrongly applied in Iraq because it lacked weapons of mass destruction, "is surely a prudent policy," the two officials who served under former President Bill Clinton (1992-2000) said in a letter to The Washington Post.
"Therefore, if North Korea persists in its launch preparations, the United States should immediately make clear its intention to strike and destroy the North Korean Taepodong missile before it can be launched," they wrote.Read the Rest.

U.S. To Intercept North Korean Missile?

As the North Koreans prepare for a missile launch, is the US planning to shoot it down?

U.S. Keeps Mum on Warships in East Sea.
The U.S. has declined to tell the South Korean military if one of its Aegis destroyers is plowing the East Sea with a view to intercepting a long-range ballistic missile North Korea is allegedly planning to launch.
Washington normally gives Seoul due notice when an aircraft carrier or Aegis ship is headed into Korea's maritime operational zone, but it sometimes keeps quiet about ships it sends into international waters off North Korea. Military insiders say there is a good chance the U.S. already has an Aegis vessel in the East Sea.
Meanwhile, the U.S. started the largest military exercise in 10 years. The operation codenamed "Valiant Shield" takes place in waters surrounding Guam, with three aircraft carriers joining drills from Monday until Thursday.
Mean while as we wait on this tense situation to play out, here is a propaganda video put out by the North Koreans on Kim Jong Il's "super powers"(This is a real video that plays on North Korean TV).

But obviously the maintainers of the site preferred life under the Shah verses life under the Mullahs. I do not believe most Iranians want to return to a non- elected government but would prefer democracy instead. A brief history of the day as I wonder if it is now time to have a childrens day. Everyone have a nice weekend.

Father's Day

The idea for an official Father’s Day celebration came to a married daughter, seated in a church in Spokane, Washington, attentive to a Sunday sermon on Mother’s Day in 1910-two years after the first Mother’s Day observance in West Virginia.
The daughter was Mrs. Sonora Smart Dodd. During the sermon, which extolled maternal sacrifices made for children, Mrs. Dodd realized that in her own family it had been her father, William Jackson Smart, a Civil War veteran, who had sacrificed-raising herself and five sons alone, following the early death of his wife in childbirth. For Mrs. Dodd, the hardships her father had endured on their eastern Washington farm called to mind the unsung feats of fathers everywhere.
Father’s Day, however, was not so quickly accepted as Mother’s Day. Members of the all-male Congress felt that a move to proclaim the day official might be interpreted as a self-congratulatory pat on the back.
In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson and his family personally observed the day. And in 1924, President Calvin Coolidge recommended that states, if they wished, should hold their own Father’s Day observances. He wrote to the nation’s governors that "the widespread observance of this occasion is calculated to establish more intimate relations between fathers and their children, and also to impress upon fathers the full measure of their obligations."
Eventually, in 1972-sixty-two years after it was proposed-Father’s Day was permanently established by President Richard Nixon. Historians seeking an ancient precedent for an official Father’s Day observance have come up with only one: The Romans, every February, honored fathers-but only those deceased.

Just kidding, but why in the hell would someone put marijuana in bathroom vanities and not think there was a good chance it would be discovered.

(CNN) -- Large quantities of drugs were found inside merchandise from at least two Home Depot stores in Massachusetts, and authorities are investigating, police said Wednesday.
A contractor late last week discovered two 50-pound "bricks" of marijuana wrapped in plastic bags inside a bathroom vanity he had purchased at a Home Depot store in Tewksbury, said Chief of Detectives Lt. Dennis Peterson.
The estimated street value of the marijuana is around $145,000, Peterson said.
A plumber purchased a vanity in western Massachusetts on Monday in which he later found 3 kilograms of cocaine and around 40 pounds of marijuana, with a total estimated street value of $250,000, according to the Southwick Police Department.
In a written statement, The Home Depot said, "The company is cooperating with authorities as they investigate this matter, and we will support law enforcement in any way possible to help bring those responsible to justice."Read More.

The abundance of information found in Zarqawi's hideout has lead to numerous raids and the subsequent deaths of large numbers of terrorists. BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The U.S. military said on Thursday it believed it knew the real identity of the new leader of al Qaeda in Iraq, and expected him to continue the bloody tactics of his slain predecessor.
Al Qaeda on Monday named the successor to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, killed last week in a U.S. air strike, as Abu Hamza al-Muhajir.
"We think that Abu Ayyub al-Masri is in fact, probably, Abu Hamza al-Muhajir. They are probably one and the same," Major General William Caldwell, the spokesman for the U.S. military in Iraq, told a news conference.The Rest.

Iraq reveals 'al Qaeda plans'
The Iraqi government Thursday said that newly discovered documents from al Qaeda in Iraq revealed information that could destroy the terror network.
"We believe that this is the beginning of the end of al Qaeda in Iraq," said Iraq's national security adviser Mowaffaq al-Rubaie, at a press conference in Baghdad.
He said the seized documentation indicates how al Qaeda is using virtually everyone as a pawn in its fight.
The group was planning to exacerbate already hostile tensions between Iran and the United States in order to climb out of a "bleak" situation in Iraq, according to documents al-Rubaie cited. (Read English translation)

Post-al-Zarqawi Raids Kill 104 Insurgents

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - American and Iraqi forces have carried out 452 raids since last week's killing of terrorist leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, and 104 insurgents were killed during those actions, the U.S. military said Thursday.
Maj. Gen. William Caldwell, a U.S. military spokesman in Baghdad, said the raids were carried out nationwide and led to the discovery of 28 significant arms caches.
He said 255 of the raids were joint operations, while 143 were carried out by Iraqi forces alone. The raids also resulted in the captures of 759 ``anti-Iraqi elements.''

WASHINGTON — The key to creating a Harry Potter-like invisibility cloak lies in manmade materials unlike any in nature or the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, researchers say.
They're laying out a blueprint for turning science fiction into reality. And they say that, in theory, nothing's stopping them from making such a cloak. Well, almost nothing: They still need to perfect the manufacture of those exotic materials with an ability to steer light and other forms of electromagnetic radiation around a cloaked object, rendering it as invisible as something tucked into a hole in space.
Engheta has done his own work on invisibility using novel materials called metamaterials.
Pendry and his co-authors also propose using metamaterials because they can be tuned to bend electromagnetic radiation — radio waves and visible light, for example — in any direction.
A cloak made of those materials, with a structure designed down to the submicroscopic scale, would neither reflect light nor cast a shadow.
Instead, like a river streaming around a smooth boulder, light and all other forms of electromagnetic radiation would strike the cloak and simply flow around it, continuing on as if it never bumped up against an obstacle.

NEW YORK - As a seasoned “cutter,” Lee Cruceta thought he knew when it was safe to harvest human tissue from the dead for transplants to the living — and when it wasn'’t. This time, it wasn'’t.
The man'’s body stretched out in front of Cruceta in the back room of a Manhattan funeral home after hours one day last summer had yellowish skin. His vacant eyes had the same sickly cast a sign of jaundice. Cruceta telephoned his boss, Michael Mastromarino, to tell him the bad news: The body had failed inspection. “We always went by the rule that if you come across a body and you say to yourself, 'I don'’t want any part of that person in my body,’ you rule the case out,” Cruceta said.
But Mastromarino, by Cruceta'’s account, surprised him. Stay put, he said.
The boss came down, checked out the body himself and declared that “everything looked fine.”
“I was overruled,” Cruceta said.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (AP) - Google Inc. on Monday released the latest upgrades to the mapping tools that rank among the company's biggest success outside the Internet-leading search engine that steers much of the Web's traffic.
The improvements include a major expansion of the satellite imagery included in Google's three-dimensional software for touring Earth.
The Mountain View, Calif.-based company said four times more land will be covered in the latest version of its free Google Earth software, enabling about one-third of the world's population to obtain an aerial view of their homes and neighborhood.
More than 100 million people have downloaded Google Earth software since it was offered a year ago, according to figures released by the company for the first time Monday.

Senator Sam Brownback, a Republican from Kansas, Senator Ron Wyman, a Democrat from Oregon, and the senior Democrat on the House International Relations Committee, Tom Lantos of California, issued a statement to the effect that "in the global war on terror, our next strategic, surgical focus needs to be Iran." Moreover according to Mr Lantos "there has been an enormous amount of attention and emphasis lately on Iraq, which I think is appropriate. But there has been very little discussion of the equally pernicious and dangerous nature of the Iranian regime." Accordingly the three lawmakers are proposing to introduce a resolution declaring that legitimizing the existing regime in Iran "stifles the growth of democratic forces" and that "positive gestures" should be directed toward the Iranian people "and not the political figures whose survival depends upon preservation of the current regime."

William Caldwell, the spokesman for the U.S. military in Baghdad, told Fox News.Iraqi police had arrived on the scene of Wednesday's bomb attack first and put Zarqawi on a stretcher, Caldwell said. The U.S. forces arrived later and identified Zarqawi, who died shortly after."He was conscious initially according to the U.S. forces that physically saw him. He obviously had some kind of visual recognition of who they were because he attempted to roll off the stretcher, as I am told, and get away, realising it was U.S. military," Caldwell said.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the most-wanted terrorist in Iraq who waged a bloody campaign of beheadings and suicide bombings, was killed when U.S. warplanes dropped 500-pound bombs on his isolated safehouse, officials said Thursday. His death was a long-sought victory in the war in Iraq.
Al-Zarqawi and several aides, including spiritual adviser Sheik Abdul Rahman, were killed Wednesday evening in a remote area 30 miles from Baghdad in the volatile province of Diyala, just east of the provincial capital of Baqouba, officials said.
``Al-Zarqawi was eliminated,'' Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said.
At the White House, President Bush hailed the killing as ``a severe blow to al-Qaida and it is a significant victory in the war on terror.'' Read the rest.

As all of you are probably aware, unless you have been hiding under a rock lately, today is 6/6/06 or '666' often referred to as the "Mark of the Beast" which some believe is related to the Antichrist and the end times.
