As Europe Crumbles Under the Weight of Islamofacism

Here is an interesting read from an opinion article in Great Britain about the state of affairs there. They are surrendering fast, I do not see much hope for Europe in the not too distant future. Sad!

NOW WE'RE TAKING OUR TOLERANCE TO EXTREMES
22 February 2006

THOUSANDS of moderate Muslims joined a rally in London at the weekend to protest against the cartoons of Prophet Mohammed printed in some European countries.

It's hard to understand why it was strictly necessary to demonstrate, for the third week running, about something that didn't even happen here.

I'm baffled, as many of us are, as to how we're supposed to react. Respect is demanded but how much more respect can we pay a religion which is alien to most of us in almost every sense?

As taxpayers, we fund Islamic schools and the English flag is no longer allowed in English prisons, in case the red cross offends Muslims.

There seems to be a lot of bending over backwards going on here but not much in the way of moving forward. Confirmation of this arrived in the form of a poll, published last weekend, which must have shocked the hand-wringing, whimpering class in Britain who are determined to subjugate our culture in order to appease others.

Four out of 10 British Muslims want sharia law introduced to this country and a fifth understand the "feelings and motives" of the suicide bombers of 7/7, even if they didn't think it was justified.

If anyone is to blame, it's the fundamentalist and extremist mullahs and clerics who rule Muslim communities.

They seem determined to impose on us all a set of sharia rules, laid down in the 10th century, which are totally out of step in a civilised world.

Posthumous Poses: Corpses Donated for Art and Science

TORONTO, CANADA—An exhibition of human corpses is offering a new opportunity for life after death that's as easy as filing a simple form.
Then you have to die, of course.
Body Worlds, a controversial yet wildly popular traveling exhibit of real human bodies and body parts, has been raising eyebrows since it was first displayed in 1996. Nearly 20 million people have since visited one of its three touring editions.
Currently exhibiting in Toronto, Body Worlds 2 will soon come to the United States, with a stop in Denver running March 10 through July 23. Body Worlds 3, promising more dramatic never-before-seen poses, makes its world debut in Houston Feb. 25.
Plastination
The show highlights plastination, a preservation technique whereby an embalmed body is drained of its natural fluids and injected with a polymer solution. The body is posed and then cured and hardened into position.
Plastination is viewed as a novel and useful alternative to the traditional post-death options like burial and cremation. Proponents see the process as potentially useful to medical students, who some say rely too much on computer models instead of working with real bodies.
Body Worlds is the brainchild of German anatomist Gunther von Hagens, the inventor of plastination who also created a stir in 2002 by performing the first public dissection in 180 years in London. He defended the event by claiming that human anatomy and pathology should be available to the public at large, not just the medical community. The same reasoning is part of the motivation behind the current show.Read the Rest.

Huge Marijuana bust in Tennessee

picture Marijuana bust in Tennessee 1These dudes were living the "High Life" no pun intended!

This is how they grow it in Tennessee . This grow was underneath a house in a cave. The entrance was through a secret hydraulic door in the garage that led to a concrete ramp that went about 50 yards into the ground. Inside the cave was living quarters and a secret escape hatch that led you through a tunnel that exited via another hydraulic door that opened up a rock on the outside. It was very elaborate. The set up allowed them to harvest every 60 days which resulted in multi-million dollar sales. One of the guys busted was living in a house on the water in FL and had a nice yacht.
One of the agents here in Nashville worked on this for 5 years
before the warrant was finally served in December.

As Europe Continues its anti-Semitic Ways

Europe continues its slide into anti-semitism and Islamofacism.

Paris march denounces anti-Semitism after Jewish kidnap victim's death.

PARIS (AFP) - Thousands of people protesting racism and anti-Semitism were to march through Paris in memory of a Jewish kidnap victim tortured and killed by a violent extortion gang.

The Jewish and anti-racism groups organizing the rally said they expected up to 100,000 people to walk through the east of the capital, past the mobile telephone shop where the murdered man, Ilan Halimi, worked.
On February 13, Halimi was discovered, naked, bound and gagged, with horrific burns and stab injuries, alongside a railway track near Paris. He died of his injuries while being transported to hospital.

What a Character! Don Knotts Dead at 81

If I could only count the number of hours I spent watching TV with him on. You wonder how they manage to keep a straight face through all of it.

Don Knotts, TV's Lovable Nerd, Dies at 81
By JEREMIAH MARQUEZ
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Don Knotts, the skinny, lovable nerd who kept generations of television audiences laughing as bumbling Deputy Barney Fife on ``The Andy Griffith Show,'' has died. He was 81.

Knotts died Friday night of pulmonary and respiratory complications at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills, said Paul Ward, a spokesman for the cable network TV Land, which airs ``The Andy Griffith Show,'' and another Knotts hit, ``Three's Company.''

Unspecified health problems had forced him to cancel an appearance in his native Morgantown in August 2005.

The West Virginia-born actor's half-century career included seven TV series and more than 25 films, but it was the Griffith show that brought him TV immortality and five Emmies.

Concerned about an unusual odor from the oven, the clerk opened the microwave to check on the item and out tumbled what appeared to be a severed human penis, wrapped up in the paper towel.

Police were called immediately and the man ran out of the store empty handed.

Danish Cartoons Leading to Religious War? Nigeria

Nigeria military personnel clash with militant youths in Onitsha, southeastern Nigeria February 22, 2006. REUTERS/George Esiri

Christians in Nigeria retaliated against Muslims for the killings of Christians during Islamofacist protests over cartoons published in Denmark. This seems to be a case of the Christians having had enough. Will this spread beyond Nigeria? Possibly, in other African Nations where the population of Christians is large enough to fight back as it is in Nigeria(50% Muslim, 40% Christian) I think it will spread quickly. Could it spread to Europe? I do not see that happening at this point, but in time as Europe realizes that their countries are being taken over by Muslims I can see them fighting back.

Reuters weighs In.
ONITSHA, Nigeria (Reuters) - Christian youths burned the corpses of Muslims on Thursday on the streets of Onitsha in southeastern Nigeria, the city worst hit by religious riots that have killed at least 146 people across the country in five days.
Christian mobs, seeking revenge for the killings of Christians in the north, attacked Muslims with machetes, set fire to them, destroyed their houses and torched mosques in two days of violence in Onitsha, where 93 people died. Read the Rest.

Archbishop Peter Akinola(Nigeria) weighs In.(CNSNews.com) - Nigeria's top churchman believes last weekend's anti-Christian violence instigated by Muslims ostensibly angry about cartoons satirizing Mohammed, is part of a drive to turn Africa's most populous country into an Islamic state. Archbishop Peter Akinola also expressed concern about the possibility of retaliation -- a warning borne out when Christians subsequently rioted in a southern city, reportedly killing a number of Muslims. The Vatican weighs In.By Tom Heneghan, Religion EditorPARIS (Reuters) - After backing calls by Muslims for respect for their religion in the Mohammad cartoons row, the Vatican is now urging Islamic countries to reciprocate by showing more tolerance toward their Christian minorities.

Roman Catholic leaders at first said Muslims were right to be outraged when Western newspapers reprinted Danish caricatures of the Prophet, including one with a bomb in his turban. Most Muslims consider any images of Mohammad to be blasphemous.
After criticizing both the cartoons and the violent protests in Muslim countries that followed, the Vatican this week linked the issue to its long-standing concern that the rights of other faiths are limited, sometimes severely, in Muslim countries.Read the Rest.

More on 'Sell our Ports to Dubai' UPDATED! Bush threatens VETO!

As this topic is really heating up, I think I will just update this post with the latest.
What is wrong with Bush? I really do not understand his position on this, threatening a Veto to any legislation that try's to put a stop to the purchase by Dubai Ports World of some of our most crucial ports. In the middle of the war on terror and the "tough guy on terror" makes a major blunder in my opinion. With the Bi-partisan support to stop the sale, I say "Challenge the Veto", it would be overcome!

Bush Says
WASHINGTON (AFP) - US President George W. Bush locked horns with Congress over the controversial takeover by a Dubai company of operations at six major US ports, threatening to veto any bill that could delay the deal.
Weighing in after a long silence on a topic that has roiled Washington for several days, Bush made his veto threat after top US lawmakers vowed to introduce legislation to block the contract until a thorough vetting of United Arab Emirates ports operator Dubai Ports World has been completed.

Congress Says
The controversy has rocketed to the top of the US political agenda, as Democrats and Republicans have joined forces to try to upend it, criticizing what they describe as the UAE's spotty record on combating terror.
Unless US lawmakers prevent it, Dubai Ports World's controversial acquisition of the British firm which currently manages the ports is to be finalized on March 2, despite furious lobbying against it by US lawmakers.

Muslims Say(Even with all the pictures of riots over cartoons!)
Arab-American groups suggested that the entire controversy smacked strongly of racism. The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee issued a statement charging "rhetoric and bias" during the debate.
"Those who purport that ports can be run securely by a British company, but not by an Arab one, are engaging in racial profiling on the corporate level," the group said.

Richard Bright-Dead

'Godfather' actor killed by bus in NYC.

Associated Press
NEW YORK: Richard Bright, a character actor who appeared in all three "Godfather" movies and more recently on "The Sopranos," was struck and killed by a bus, police said.

Bright, 68, was hit by a private Academy Bus as he crossed the street at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday in his Manhattan neighborhood, police Detective Bernard Gifford said.

There were no arrests as of Sunday but police said the investigation was continuing. The bus driver told police he was not aware that he had hit anyone.

Bright played mob enforcer Al Neri in the "Godfather" movies, a bodyguard to the Corleone family patriarchs played by Marlon Brando and Al Pacino.

He played a con artist hustling Ali McGraw in 1972's "The Getaway" and acted in dozens of other films such as Sergio Leone's "Once Upon a Time in America" and "Looking for Mr. Goodbar" and in TV shows such as "Hill Street Blues."

"He always said it was the work that was the reward," said Brett Smiley, a friend and fellow actor.

Bright was arrested in 1965 on an obscenity charge for language he used in a San Francisco production of poet Michael McClure's two-person play "The Beard," which was shut down.

The American Civil Liberties Union took up the case and the charges against Bright were later dismissed in what was considered a precedent for artistic expression rights.

Ticking Time Bomb? Iran's Nukes

It appears that nobody is going to back down in this increasingly tense standoff. Yet time grows short for the list of options available if the Iranian regime is to be prevented from having nuclear weapons. Here is the latest.

Libyans Riot Over Prophet Cartoon; 10 Dead

TRIPOLI, Libya (AP) - Libyans set fire to the Italian consulate in a riot that left at least 10 people dead, the bloodiest protest yet against the Prophet Muhammad cartoons that have roiled the Muslim world.

Most of the protests have been in Muslim countries, but on Saturday more than 10,000 people turned out for a march in London, many arriving in buses from cities around Britain.

The protesters gathered in Trafalgar Square where speaker after speaker denounced the cartoons, first published in a Danish newspaper last September then reprinted in European papers in recent weeks in the name of press freedom. Read More

FBI Investigating Michigan Mosque Attacks

It looks like the Islamofacists are teaching our youths bad habits. I do not condone the return violence, but I guess you could see it coming at some point, the old saying "Violence begets violence". Yet still we have not seen any violence in the US by Muslims, don't get it started!

HAMTRAMCK, Mich. (AP) - Authorities are investigating a series of attacks on Detroit-area Muslims, including an assault on a cleric who was hit with a shovel and reports that a group of youths threw shoes at worshippers in a mosque.

The FBI is involved in the case, and Gov. Jennifer Granholm has offered state aid if needed, The Detroit News reported in its Thursday editions.

On Sunday, a group of youths entered Al-Islah Islamic Center in Hamtramck and took shoes that worshippers had left by the door, then threw them at the congregants, mosque officials said. Officials also said mosque windows had been broken twice this year.

Three days before the shoe incident, three men accosted the mosque's clergyman, Imam Muhammad Uddin, who was hit with a shovel, said Al-Islah President Abdul Motlib. He said Uddin did not need treatment for the leg injury but was unable to attend the mosque for two days.

    Welcome To The Site!

    Hello, glad your here.
I have been posting here for about a week. But have been mostly a "link whore" the whole time, have not really worked and wrote a post until now. Spent most of online time today categorizing and organizing the links section as well as adding to the side bar so it was not so bare. I thought that was a priority being in the "Blog Title" I advertise the largest variety of links available" I think I have included a comprehensive list of links. Basically it is a "greatest Hit's" from my bookmarked links.
Most Blogs I have seen are pretty one dimensional as far as there links section goes, they lean left or right or are "One Topic/Bland" selection wise. Also most of them tend to have hundreds of links, I intend to keep the links section small, if there are more links/sites than you can visit/read in an hour- there are too many.
Once again-Glad your here, browse and read for awhile and check out the links in the sidebar I am sure you will enjoy many of them!

Girls Equal, Exceed Boys in Substance Abuse

Girls Equal, Exceed Boys in Substance Abuse

    By Corey Binns
    Special to LiveScience
    posted: 09 February 2006
    04:23 pm ET

Adolescent girls abuse drugs and alcohol just as much if not more than boys, a new study indicates.

Contrary to popular belief, more girls are new substance abusers. In 2004, 1.5 million girls started using alcohol, 730,000 girls started smoking, and 675,000 started using marijuana, according to the 2004 National Survey on Drug Use and Health.

The Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) reported the findings today.

"Over the last few years, we have seen overall drug use decrease among teens—boys and girls. But the trends of substance use among our adolescent girls are alarming," said ONDCP Director John P. Walters.

Conversely, a 2003 Centers for Disease Control survey of high school students found male students more likely to report methamphetamine use than their female classmates.

Marijuana is the drug of choice for girls; they prefer it over cocaine, heroin, Ecstasy, and all other illicit drugs combined, according to ONDCP.

Girls smoke cigarettes and abuse prescription drugs more than boys. And since 2003, girls have caught up with boys in abuse of illicit drugs and alcohol.

Girls abuse for different reasons that boys. Drug and alcohol use has a more profound impact on teen girls, both physically and psychologically.

They tend to use substances to help their mood, boost their confidence, and cope with problems. Yet smoking marijuana can increase the risk of depression by five times in teen girls, and double the risk of depression for teens of both genders, research shows.

A desire to lose weight also contributes to drug abuse; girls pop diet pills four times more than boys.

Substance abuse can lead to physical, mental, and social consequences for girls, especially when their bodies and brains are still developing.

"Girls are telling us that they understand the risks associated with drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes," Walters said. "But that doesn't appear to be stopping them from using."

U.S. Cites Rise in Violence Along Border With Mexico

WASHINGTON, Feb. 10 — Mexican criminal syndicates are stepping up their attacks on American agents patrolling the border as officials of the Homeland Security Department intensify efforts to stem the flow of immigrants and drugs into the United States, American officials said this week.

In recent months, scores of Border Patrol agents have been fired upon or pelted with large stones as well as with cloth-covered stones that have been doused with flammable liquid and set ablaze. Since October, agents have been attacked in more than 190 cases, officials said on Thursday.

Most of the attacks have occurred along the Mexican border near San Diego, but shootings have also been reported along the border in Texas near the cities of Laredo and McAllen. In the fiscal year that ended on Sept. 30, there were 778 attacks on agents, up from 374 in the previous fiscal year, Homeland Security Department officials said.

One stone struck an agent in the eye; a gunshot hit an agent in the leg. The officials could not say precisely how many officers had been injured in the attacks, which have originated from both sides of the border.

"This is what we're facing," said David V. Aguilar, the Border Patrol chief, who played a videotape at a news conference on Thursday that featured a patrol car riddled with bullets and agents scrambling for cover as stones rained down on them. "This is a very serious type of situation."

The homeland security secretary, Michael Chertoff, who led the news conference, said officials planned to continue their efforts at securing the United States-Mexico border.

This week President Bush asked Congress to increase the Homeland Security Department's budget by nearly 6 percent. The Border Patrol would receive an extra $459 million to hire 1,500 new agents, bringing the total force to about 14,000. An additional $410 million would be allocated to add 6,700 beds for detainees so fewer illegal immigrants would have to be released before being deported. Another $100 million would be spent on cameras, sensors and other detection technology.

Mr. Chertoff said the department planned to focus on illegal immigrants from countries other than Mexico, who have typically been released after apprehension because of shortages of beds. Last fall, he expanded the use of summary deportations, a process known as expedited removal, in which illegal immigrants from countries other than Mexico are detained and then deported without seeing an immigration judge.

But officials have struggled to find space for family groups and remain unable to process illegal immigrants from El Salvador because of a court ruling from the 1980's, when civil war wracked that country, that requires officials to allow Salvadorans to see judges before deportation.

Nationwide, 18,207 illegal immigrants from countries other than Mexico, nearly 60 percent of the total apprehended, were released on their own recognizance in the first three months of this fiscal year.

Officials of the Homeland Security Department said they were making headway in detaining and deporting these illegal immigrants. They are also working on finding more space for families and battling to change the rule regarding Salvadorans.

As for the violence on the border, the officials said Mexico had deployed 300 federal officers along its side of the border to help out. But many of the Mexican gangs remain entrenched.

Last week, immigration officials announced that they had seized a cache of weapons, including materials for 33 explosive devices, assault weapons and machine gun assembly kits, in Laredo. Officials believe the weapons were intended for criminals in Mexico.

"These are very sophisticated, hardened criminals who will use violence to protect their criminal businesses," Mr. Chertoff said. "We've got to be prepared to deal very decisively with any violence directed at our Border Patrol agents."

    Ahmadinejad: Israel 'will be removed'

    Ahmadinejad: Israel 'will be removed'

Tehran (dpa) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Saturday that the Palestinians and "other nations" will eventually remove Israel from the region.
Addressing a mass demonstration in Tehran - one of many organized throughout Iran to commemorate the 27th anniversary of the Islamic revolution - he once again questioned the Holocaust "fairy tale".
"We ask the West to remove what they created sixty years ago and if they do not listen to our recommendations, then the Palestinian nation and other nations will eventually do this for them," Ahmadinejad said in a ceremony marking the 27th anniversary of the Islamic revolution.
"Do the removal of Israel before it is too late and save yourself from the fury of regional nations," the ultra-conservative president said. He once again called the Holocaust a "fairy tale" and said Europeans have become hostages of "Zionists" in Israel.
He also accused Europeans for not allowing "neutral scholars" to investigate in Europe and make a scientific report on "the truth about the fairy tale of Holocaust."
"How comes that insulting the prophet of Muslims worldwide is justified within the framework of press freedom, but investigating about the fairy tale Holocaust is not?" Ahmadinejad said.
"The real Holocaust is what is happening in Palestine where the Zionists avail themselves of the fairy tale of Holocaust as blackmail and justification for killing children and women and making innocent people homeless," Ahmadinejad said.
The president said that the results of the parliamentary elections in Palestine and the victory of the Hamas group "clearly showed what the people really want."
"You (the West) want democracy but do not respect the outcome," Ahmadinejad said, referring to the election results in Iraq and Palestine.
"It seems that you (the West) only want that form of democracy whose results just repeat your standpoints and only follow your policies," he said.
Ahmadinejad once again called on the West to adopt the "simple option" and allow Palestinians to voice their political will through a referendum.
Mass demonstrations organized by the state were held throughout Iran on Saturday as the nation commemorated the 27th anniversary of the revolution that established the Islamic Republic in Iran.
According to state media, hundreds of thousands of people came into the streets to show their solidarity with the government over pursuing the country's nuclear programmes and voice their protest against publication of cartoons deemed insulting to the Prophet Mohammed.
While chanting "Death to America", "Death of Israel" and "Nuclear energy is our undisputable right", the crowd walked toward the Azadi (Freedom) Square in Tehran where Ahmadinejad held his annual speech.
In his speech the Iranian president warned that in case of harsh measures against Tehran over its controversial nuclear programme, the country would revise its commitment toward the Nuclear Non- Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
"The policy of Iran has so far been pursuing nuclear technology within the framework of the NPT and IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency)," he said.
"But if you (the West) continue efforts to deprive the Iranian nation from this (nuclear) right, then we would reconsider this policy," he warned.
Ahmadinejad asked the crowd in the Azadi square to tell the world its message and show its willingness to continue the nuclear programmes despite Western pressure.
"The era of military force is over, today is the era of nations, logic and worshippers of God," the president said.
He also referred to remarks by United States President George W. Bush who had said that the Iranian people were different from the Islamic government in Tehran, saying there was no distinction.
"Look, this is the third generation standing here and they are even more religious, more informed, more enthusiastic and more resistant (than the first generation) to defend the ideals of the revolution," Ahmadinejad said.
The president also referred to the cartoons and called it a "Zionist plot" against not only Muslims but also those genuinely committed to Christianity and Judaism.
"Those who insulted the prophet should know that you cannot obscure the sun with a handful of dust. The dust will just get back and blind your own eyes," he said.
The crowd replied to his remarks with "Death to Denmark" slogans.

Interesting Read: Military Mulls Use of 'Star Trek' Weapons

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) -- For years, the U.S. military has explored a new kind of firepower that is instantaneous, precise and virtually inexhaustible: beams of electromagnetic energy. "Directed-energy'' pulses can be throttled up or down depending on the situation, much like the phasers on "Star Trek'' could be set to kill or merely stun.

Such weapons are now nearing fruition. But logistical issues have delayed their battlefield debut -- even as soldiers in Iraq encounter tense urban situations in which the nonlethal capabilities of directed energy could be put to the test.

"It's a great technology with enormous potential, but I think the environment's not strong for it,'' said James Jay Carafano, a senior fellow at the conservative Heritage Foundation who blames the military and Congress for not spending enough on getting directed energy to the front. "The tragedy is that I think it's exactly the right time for this.''

The hallmark of all directed-energy weapons is that the target -- whether a human or a mechanical object -- has no chance to avoid the shot because it moves at the speed of light. At some frequencies, it can penetrate walls.

Since the ammunition is merely light or radio waves, directed-energy weapons are limited only by the supply of electricity. And they don't involve chemicals or projectiles that can be inaccurate, accidentally cause injury or violate international treaties.

"When you're dealing with people whose full intent is to die, you can't give people a choice of whether to comply,'' said George Gibbs, a systems engineer for the Marine Expeditionary Rifle Squad Program who oversees directed-energy projects. "What I'm looking for is a way to shoot everybody, and they're all OK.''

Almost as diverse as the electromagnetic spectrum itself, directed-energy weapons span a wide range of incarnations.

Among the simplest forms are inexpensive, handheld lasers that fill people's field of vision, inducing a temporary blindness to ensure they stop at a checkpoint, for example. Some of these already are used in Iraq.

Other radio-frequency weapons in development can sabotage the electronics of land mines, shoulder-fired missiles or automobiles -- a prospect that interests police departments in addition to the military.

A separate branch of directed-energy research involves bigger, badder beams: lasers that could obliterate targets tens of miles away from ships or planes. Such a strike would be so surgical that, as some designers put it at a recent conference here, the military could plausibly deny responsibility.

The flexibility of directed-energy weapons could be vital as wide-scale, force-on-force conflict becomes increasingly rare, many experts say. But the technology has been slowed by such practical concerns as how to shrink beam-firing antennas and power supplies.

Military officials also say more needs to be done to assure the international community that directed-energy weapons set to stun rather than kill will not harm noncombatants.

Such issues recently led the Pentagon to delay its Project Sheriff, a plan to outfit vehicles in Iraq with a combination of lethal and nonlethal weaponry -- including a highly touted microwave-energy blaster that makes targets feel as if their skin is on fire. Sheriff has been pushed at least to 2006.

"It was best to step back and make sure we understand where we can go with it,'' said David Law, science and technology chief for the Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Directorate.

The directed-energy component in the project is the Active Denial System, developed by Air Force researchers and built by Raytheon Co. It produces a millimeter-wavelength burst of energy that penetrates 1/64 of an inch into a person's skin, agitating water molecules to produce heat. The sensation is certain to get people to halt whatever they are doing.

Military investigators say decades of research have shown that the effect ends the moment a person is out of the beam, and no lasting damage is done as long as the stream does not exceed a certain duration. How long? That answer is classified, but it apparently is in the realm of seconds, not minutes. The range of the beam also is secret, though it is said to be further than small arms fire, so an attacker could be repelled before he could pull a trigger.

Although Active Denial works -- after a $51 million, 11-year investment -- it has proven to be a "model for how hard it is to field a directed-energy nonlethal weapon,'' Law said.

For example, the prototype system can be mounted on a Humvee but the vehicle has to stop in order to fire the beam. Using the vehicle's electrical power "is pushing its limits,'' he added.

Still, Raytheon is pressing ahead with smaller, portable, shorter-range spinoffs of Active Denial for embassies, ships or other sensitive spots.

One potential customer is the Department of Energy. Researchers at its Sandia National Laboratories are testing Active Denial as a way to repel intruders from nuclear facilities. But Sandia researchers say the beams won't be in place until 2008 at the earliest because so much testing remains.

In the meantime, Raytheon is trying to drum up business for an automated airport-defense project known as Vigilant Eagle that detects shoulder-fired missiles and fries their electronics with an electromagnetic wave. The system, which would cost $25 million per airport, has proven effective against a "real threat,'' said Michael Booen, a former Air Force colonel who heads Raytheon's directed-energy work. He refused to elaborate.

For Peter Bitar, the future of directed energy boils down to money.

Bitar heads Indiana-based Xtreme Alternative Defense Systems Ltd., which makes small blinding lasers used in Iraq. But his real project is a nonlethal energy device called the StunStrike.

Basically, it fires a bolt of lightning. It can be tuned to blow up explosives, possibly to stop vehicles and certainly to buzz people. The strike can be made to feel as gentle as "broom bristles'' or cranked up to deliver a paralyzing jolt that "takes a few minutes to wear off.''

Bitar, who is of Arab descent, believes StunStrike would be particularly intimidating in the Middle East because, he contends, people there are especially afraid of lightning.

At present, StunStrike is a 20-foot tower that can zap things up to 28 feet away. The next step is to shrink it so it could be wielded by troops and used in civilian locales like airplane cabins or building entrances.

Xtreme ADS also needs more tests to establish that StunStrike is safe to use on people.

But all that takes money -- more than the $700,000 Bitar got from the Pentagon from 2003 until the contract recently ended.

Bitar is optimistic StunStrike will be perfected, either with revenue from the laser pointers or a partnership with a bigger defense contractor. In the meantime, though, he wishes soldiers in Iraq already had his lightning device on difficult missions like door-to-door searches.

"It's very frustrating when you know you've got a solution that's being ignored,'' he said. "The technology is the easy part.''

    "Cool" Is still Cool

'Cool' Always Has Place in Modern Lexicon

    - Groovy is over, hip is square, far out is long
    gone. Don't worry, though - it's cool.
"Cool" remains the gold standard of slang in the 21st century,
as reliable as a blue-chip stock, surviving like few expressions
ever in our constantly evolving language. It has kept its cool
through the centuries - even as its meaning changed drastically.
    How cool is that?
Way cool, say experts who interpret slang for their messages
    about society.
"Cool" is certainly a charter member for the slang hall of
fame, says Robert Thompson, a Syracuse University professor of
popular culture. Cool just sits back and keeps getting used
generation after generation and lets the whole history of the
    language roll off its back.
Thompson estimates he uses the word 50 times a day as an
egghead professor because no other word quite does the job. He
says its versatility helps explain its staying power.
It is the all-purpose word for OK, good, great, terrific and
every gradation in between, often pronounced nowadays as ``kewl.
Before it became slang, cool was, of course, a literal reference
to temperature, and later a favorite metaphor of writers as far
back as Chaucer in the 1300s. In 1602, Shakespeare wrote that Queen Gertrude told Hamlet: O gentle son, Upon the heat and flame of
    thy distemper, Sprinkle cool patience.
By the 17th century, the word helped define a woman's ability to
allay a man's passion through sex. During the horse-and-buggy era,
cooling one's heels described the need to rest a horse with
overheated hooves. The 1800s saw the use of "cool off,'' meaning
to kill, and the cool customer.
Early in the 20th century, it was used to refer to large amounts
of money: "a cool million." In the 1920s, Calvin Coolidge's White
House campaign slogan was "Keep Cool With Coolidge." By the
    1930s, cool as a cucumber was ``the bee's knees'' - slang of
    the era for ``excellent.
But by the 1940s, cool gained popularity through its use in jazz
clubs, where musicians employed a word that had already enjoyed
    wide use among blacks.
The 1997 book ``America in So Many Words'' traces the modern
usage of cool to the late 1940s. In 1947, the book notes, the
Charlie Parker Quartet recorded ``Cool Blues.
A year later, Life magazine titled an article ``Bebop: New Jazz
School Is Led by Trumpeter Who Is Hot, Cool and Gone. And in
1948, The New Yorker said ``the bebop people have a language of
their own. ... Their expressions of approval include `cool.
Geoffrey Nunberg, a linguist at the University of California at
Berkeley, says the word should have faded away at the end of the
50s. Instead, it was adopted and redefined by hippies, followed by
surfers, rappers and techno-geeks. Click here for cool stuff,
    Web sites say.
Peter N. Stearns, a social historian at George Mason University
and author of the book ``American Cool,'' says cool went mainstream
in the 1950s and '60s because society needed a word to express
    attitude without anger.
We were dealing with a culture that was placing an increasing
premium on controlling emotion, particularly anger,'' he says. The
hippies in the 1960s used the word to ``promote the notion that
they were relaxed and not angry.
Since then, he says, the expression has lost some of its vigor
because of overuse. ``When we say somebody's looking cool, we don't
have as much sense of meaning as we did 40 years ago,'' he says.
Now we just mean he's looking good.
Thompson says there is no reason to believe that cool will ever
go the way of linguistic dinosaurs like ``bad'' (meaning good), or
chill (meaning cool off) or groovy, which sounds so ``Brady
    Bunch.
Cool is already firmly ensconced in several generations,'' he
says. ``It's got street cred. And it had street cred before we even
    used the word `street cred.'

    Norm Stewart, Where are You?

This has been on the horizon for some time, His program has had many issues in the few years he has been there, not the worst of which has been under achieving, the the worst - NCAA probation for 3 Years. I live in Big12/Big8 Country and I hate to see any of these teams programs slip so far, especially a storied program like Missouri's. Norm Stewart where are you?

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Missouri basketball coach Quin Snyder
resigned Friday, one day after saying he planned to finish what had
    become a disappointing season.
Associate head coach Melvin Watkins will guide the team the rest
    of the season.
After a 10-5 start that culminated with an overtime win against
rival Kansas, the Tigers lost six straight. They've fallen to 3-7 -
    and next-to-last - in the Big 12.
Snyder spoke to his team before practice Friday and said he was
    leaving.
What he told us is, it's an opportunity to get back to playing
basketball. All the speculation was a heavy burden,'' sports
    information director Dave Reiter said.
Snyder left after a seven-year stint, compiling a 126-91 record.
After playing at Duke and working as an assistant to coach Mike
Krzyzewski, Snyder was hired to replace the retiring Norm Stewart
and take Missouri to national prominence.
Snyder had 20-win teams in three of his first four seasons,
including an appearance in the final eight. But the Tigers were
only 42-42 since then, and attendance has dropped despite a new
    arena that opened last season.
Snyder said before practice Thursday that he hadn't been asked
to resign and didn't plan to.
`I'm coaching my team, so I'm going to keep doing that until
someone tells me not to, keep working as hard as I can,'' Snyder
    said at the time.
The program has also been marred by scandal. In 2004, it was
placed on NCAA probation for three years following questionable
activities surrounding former point guard Ricky Clemons. The school
avoided a ban from postseason play but was prohibited from
    off-campus recruiting for one year.
Watkins is in his second season with Missouri after six seasons
as head coach at Texas A&M. Watkins also coached Charlotte to a
42-20 record from 1996-98, during which he had two NCAA tournament appearances.
Watkins' son, Marcus, also is a reserve for the Tigers.

New tomb found in Valley of Kings
CAIRO -- American archaeologists have uncovered a pharaonic-era tomb in Egypt's Valley of the Kings, the first uncovered there since King Tutankhamen's in 1922, Egypt's antiquities chief announced.
The 18th Dynasty tomb included five mummies in intact sarcophagi with colored funerary masks and with more than 20 large storage jars, marked with pharaonic seals, said Zahi Hawass, head of the Supreme Council of Antiquities.
A University of Memphis team of archaeologists led by Otto Schaden found the tomb about 13 feet below the ground, buried under rubble and stones 16 feet away from King Tut's tomb.

Right on! Recent email I received

Recent email I received that is right on!!!

WOULDN'T IT BE GREAT TO TURN ON THE TV AND HEAR ANY U.S. PRESIDENT, DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN GIVE THE FOLLOWING SPEECH?
My Fellow Americans: As you all know, the defeat of Iraq regime has been completed. Since congress does not want to spend any more money on this war, our mission in Iraq is complete.
This morning I gave the order for a complete removal of all American forces from Iraq. This action will be complete within 30 days. It is now to begin the reckoning.
Before me, I have two lists. One list contains the names of countries which have stood by our side during the Iraq conflict.
This list is short. The United Kingdom, Spain, South Korea, Bulgaria, Australia, and Poland are some of the countries listed there.

The other list contains everyone not on the first list. Most of the world's nations are on that list. My press secretary will be distributing copies of both lists later this evening.
Let me start by saying that effective immediately, foreign aid to those nations on List 2 ceases immediately and indefinitely. The money saved during the first year alone will pretty much pay for the costs of the Iraqi war.

The American people are no longer going to pour money into third world Hell-holes and watch those government leaders grow fat on corruption.

Need help with a famine? Wrestling with an epidemic? Call France.
In the future, together with Congress, I will work to redirect this money toward solving the vexing social problems we still have at home. On that note, a word to terrorist organizations. Screw with us and we will hunt you down and eliminate you and all your friends from the face of the earth.

Thirsting for a gutsy country to terrorize? Try France, or maybe China.
I am ordering the immediate severing of diplomatic relations with France, Germany, and Russia. Thanks for all your help, comrades. We are retiring from NATO as well. Bon chance, mes amis.

I have instructed the Mayor of New York City to begin towing the many UN diplomatic vehicles located in Manhattan with more than two unpaid parking tickets to sites where those vehicles will be stripped, shredded and crushed. I don't care about whatever treaty pertains to this. You creeps have tens of thousands of unpaid tickets. Pay those tickets tomorrow or watch your precious Benzes, Beamers and limos be turned over to some of the finest chop shops in the world. I love New York
A special note to our neighbors. Canada is on List 2 Since we are likely to be seeing a lot more of each other, you folks might want to try not pissing us off for a change.

Mexico is also on List 2. President Fox and his entire corrupt government really need an attitude adjustment. I will have a couple extra tank and infantry divisions sitting around. Guess where I am going to put em? Yep, border security. So start doing something with your oil.
Oh, by the way, the United States is abrogating the NAFTA treaty - starting now. one-way highway. Immediately, we'll be drilling for oil in Alaska - which will take care of this country's oil needs for decades to come. If you're an environmentalist who opposes this decision, I refer you to List 2 above: pick a country and move there. They care.

It is time for America to focus on its own welfare and its own citizens. Some will accuse us of isolationism. I answer them by saying, "darn tootin."
Nearly a century of trying to help folks live a decent life around the world has only earned us the undying enmity of just about everyone on the planet. It is time to eliminate hunger in America. It is time to eliminate homelessness in America. It is time to eliminate World Cup Soccer from America.
To the nations on List 1, a final thought. Thanks guys. We owe you and we won't forget.
To the nations on List 2, a final thought: You might want to learn to speak Arabic.
God bless America. Thank you and good night. If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you are reading it in English, thank a soldier.

    Video Shows Boot Camp Beating

    Via Drudge.
This just makes you sick. And as Drudge would say "Developing" It looks as it may take some time for the truth to come out here, but it certainly sounds like the boy suffered a real beating and a cruel death.

By BRENT KALLESTAD Associated Press Writer
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- A videotape shows guards brutally beating a boy at a military-style boot camp for juvenile delinquents not long before the teenager died, two lawmakers said Thursday. Martin Lee Anderson, 14, died Jan. 6 at a Pensacola hospital, a day after he entered the camp because of an arrest for theft. Anderson complained of breathing difficulties and collapsed during exercises that were part of the entry process at the camp, which was run by the Bay County Sheriff's Office. Authorities have said he had to be restrained when he became uncooperative during the workout. State Rep. Gus Barreiro, a Republican, called the videotape "horrific," saying he had "never seen any kid being brutalized ... the way I saw this young man being brutalized." Even towards the end of the videotape, where you could just see there was pretty much nothing left of Martin, they came out with a couple cups of water and splashed him in the face," he said. "When you see stuff like that, you want to go through the TV and say, 'Enough is enough. Please stop hitting this kid.'" Bay County authorities and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement have refused to make the tape public, but Barreiro and state Rep. Dan Gelber, a Democrat who also viewed the videotape, said it would be released soon."I don't think there's any question there was excessive force," Gelber said. "This is a relatively small kid with a half a dozen of pretty strong men, and he seemed to be phasing in and out of consciousness." Sheriff Frank McKeithen issued a statement accusing Barreiro and Gelber of overreacting with "irresponsible, premature and incorrect statements that add fuel to an already volatile situation." The contents of the tape were first reported by The Miami Herald. Gov. Jeb Bush, who was in Orlando, said that although he had not seen the tape, several of his aides had and he was aware of the contents. "Absolutely we're concerned," he said. Anderson's family said it plans to sue Bay County and the state Department of Juvenile Justice, which oversees boot camp programs. The department gave the camp a good review in June 2004.

Are they not proving the cartoons true?

SUPPORT DENMARK: WHY THE FORBIDDEN CARTOONS MATTER
    By Michelle Malkin · January 30, 2006 09:37 PM

Last October, I blogged about a Danish newspaper, Jyllands-Posten, and its cartoonists being threatened by Muslim extremists for publishing cartoons about the prophet Muhammad deemed offensive by Islamist p.c. bulllies. See here and here.

For the past four months, The Brussels Journal has relentlessly covered the ensuing uproar from the Muslim world and the battle over the newspaper's freedom to publish provocative speech.

Things came to a head over the past week. In Gaza City, Palestinian gunmen took over an EU office to protest the cartoons:

Masked gunmen today took over an office used by the European Union to protest the publication of cartoons deemed insulting to Islam. About five gunmen stormed the building, closing the office down, while 10 other armed men stood watch outside. One of the militants said they were protesting the drawings, one of which depicted Islam's Prophet Muhammad wearing a turban shaped as a bomb.

Danish flags are being burned. Danish workers have reportedly been beaten. The country now faces an international boycott from Muslim nations.

While the intrepid newspaper has not apologized for printing the cartoons, it has issued a statement acknowledging that the cartoons "offended many Muslims, which we would like to apologize for." Paul Belien at The Brussels Journal singles out the courage of Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen, who has refused to capitulate to the bullies:

He is one of the very few European politicians with guts. If anyone deserves a prize for his valiant defence of freedom of speech and freedom of the press, it is certainly Mr Rasmussen. He did not give in to pressure from Muslim fanatics, nor from the appeasers at the UN, the European Commission and the Council of Europe. In the past weeks Denmark has shown that all is not yet lost in Europe. If something is rotten now it is not in Denmark.
